In a significant push to advance locally relevant AI in Europe, AI search innovator Nvidia and Perplexity have partnered with more than a dozen AI companies in Europe and the Middle East. The alliance is focused on training and deploying “reasoning” language models in local languages such as French, German, Italian, Polish, Spanish, and Swedish, breaking the traditional dominance of English and Chinese-language datasets. The news was made at a high-profile Paris AI event, where Nvidia’s Kari Briski and Perplexity’s Aravind Srinivas gave more depth and background on the initiative’s potential impact.

Connecting the “Low-Resource Language” Gap
Nvidia’s solution involves the generation of synthetic data and the translation of existing training datasets in order to strengthen models for those languages that have few EMEA-specific corpora. As Nvidia’s VP of generative AI software. “We’re doing a lot of synthetic data generation to bring to these low-resource languages and translating our reasoning data so that they can train on it,” Briski said in an interview. “Europe needs strong models that reflect each nation’s unique language and culture.” These methods will enable European model builders to fine-tune local LLMs into “reasoning models” capable of handling complex tasks, developing beyond simple language processing.
Ecosystem: Model Builders + Cloud Partners
Nvidia website also clarifies that the partnership involves model development teams like Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), Bielik.AI (Poland), H Company (France), Domyn (Italy), LightOn (France), NAISS and KBLab (Sweden), University College London (UK), University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), Slovak Republic, TII (UAE), among others.
These sovereign models will then be optimized employing Nvidia Nemotron methods such as neural architecture search and reinforced training, subsequently executed on cloud infrastructure from Nvidia Cloud Partners (NCPs) such as Nebius, Nscale, and Fluidstack through the DGX Cloud Lepton marketplace.
More In-Depth Penetration through Perplexity’s Platform
After being optimized, the regional LLMs will be integrated into Perplexity’s AI answer engine that serves about 150 million queries per week. European user enterprises can use the models in local data centers and customize them through a new Hugging Face–DGX Cloud Lepton integration.
